April 5th 2001:
FOOT & MOUTH DISEASE UPDATE
The BHPA provides the following advice to all pilots
All BHPA members should be fully aware of the highly infectious nature of Foot & Mouth disease. It can be transferred on your boots, clothing, wings etc.
It is clear that some areas of the country are remaining unaffected. Sites officers who can negotiate with their club/school site owners for flying to resume should be free to do so. It would also be circumspect to clear permission with surrounding farmers under current circumstances.
Once bans are lifted in affected areas please continue to respect the wishes of your site owners. Farmers provide most of our flying sites and deserve our support and consideration.
Do not fly cross country. Temporary airspace restrictions surround areas affected by Foot and Mouth. BHPA National XC Leagues are currently suspended.
The spread of Foot & Mouth has become epidemic and we should all act responsibly in helping to contain this disease.
If in any doubt, please treat all farmland, mountain and moorland sites as CLOSED until further notice.
Thank you for your co-operation.
